GREAT PERFORMER

GEDDIS, BOY SWIMMER

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post") DUNEDIN, This Day,

The record of Keg. Geddes, the New Zealand junior boys' ewunniing champion, is rather remarkable. Between January of las* year and January this year, he has broken no fewer than twelve records, and equalled another. He started on his record-breaking career at the' Kiwi Club's carnjval last seasou, when he established a fresh water record for the 75yds junior boys' breaststroke. He also set a salt water record for the same event at the New Zealand championships in Wellington. Returning to Dunedin, he broke the Qtago Boys' High School junior records for 33 l-3yds, in IS 2-ssec, and for 06 2-iiyds, in 42 2-ssec, tmd followed this by establishing th« first year boys' record for 33 l-3yds of 19 l-ssec. At the Otago championships this seasou, he set New Zealand junior boys' fresh water records for 50yds, in 28--2-ssec, 100 yds, in 04 4-Ssec, and 75yds breaststroke in 5U 4-Ssec. At the suine meeting he established a centre record for 150 yds junior boys, and this week another centre record for 75yds, which he did in 47 2-ssec. At the New Zealand championships he further improved his breaststroke record to 59 3-ssec, and established a 220 yds junior boys freshwater record.

The abolition of recognition of separate fresh and salt water records will mean that Geddes now holds the New Zealand records for. 100 yds, (65 4-ssec)', and-75yds breaststroke■ (59 3-ssec). He; equalled his 100 yds .time ,at: Jhe: Kiwi Club carnival recently. -During the last two or three years he Las, in competition in junior ranks,- won .eleven Otago championships; ten primary school championships, the Otago Boys High School junior championship (comprising three different events), and six New Zealand championships. ' He has won the 75yds junior boys' New Zealand .breaststroke championship ..three .times, the..22oyds twice, and'the 100 yds once, and was second on another occasion. .

Geddes is competing at the Otago Boys' High i School senior championship, and will then lay off until next season. He may well rank as New Zealand's most phenomenal junior boy swimmer; but not far behind him is W. Jarvis, who is ten months younger. Jarvis .was beaten by only^four feet in 75vds; by Geddes during the week.
