SWEPT OUT TO SEA
CAUGHT BY" THE BACKWASH
(By Telegraph.—Press Asgociation.) GISBORNE, This Day.
C. J. Bamptoii, aged 25, single, an exchange clerk in Tokomaru Bay Post Office, was drowned on the beach at Tokomaru Bay this morning. The deceased Was swept out to sea by the backwash while bathing. A companion attempted' to rescue him, but was compelled to relinquish his hold owiug to the swift current and had to be helped from the water in an exhausted condition.
