LOCAL SIDE BATTING
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NELSON, This Day. The M.C.C. team commenced a match against Nelson to-day. The weather is fine, but cloudy. Gilligan sent Nelson in. At noon two wickets were down for 9, Allom taking both for threo runs. Bnrratt replaced ISfichols, and Worthington replaced Allom. Neale ana S. Newman batted confidently, the latter hitting Barratt freely to the off. Sixty minutes' batting saw 50 up. Woolley missed Newman early. When Neale was 30 he gave- a hot chance to Gilligan, who missed it. Two balls later Woolley just failed to hold a high return from Neale off his own bowling. The wicket is easy. At lunch Nelson had lost two wickets for 70 runs. Scores:— NELSON. Pirst Innings. Langbein, b Allom 4 6 Halfo, lbw, b Allom 0 Neale, not 'out. 32 Newman, not out 27 Extras 5 Total for two wickets 70
