A CHANGE IN PROSPECT

' AUCKLAND, This Day. Should.the. negotiations at present being carried on be successful, tho control of King's College will bo taken over next year by St. John's College. This announcement was made by Archbishop Averil], who is a member of the boards controlling both schools.

At the King's College speech day yesterday Archbishop Averill said that discussions had been proceeding between the King's College Board of Governors and the St. John's College Board, and there was every prospect of certain financial difficulties being overcome. King's College would then be conducted by the Church of England, but he gave an assurance that it would be carried on exactly as at present. Financial responsibilities totalling over £58 000 would have to be shouldered by the St. John's College Board in the event of the change being made. An. anonymous donor liad already promised £5000 to King's College on condition that it was placed under control of the St. John's board. It was also announced that Mr. C. T. Major, formerly headmaster of King's College, had agreed to accept the position of bursar to the college for a year, taking the financial administration, and leaving Mr. Archdall free to attend to the educational activities.
