CRICKET IF DUNEDIN
BLUNT RETURNING TO FORM
„ . (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.")
DUNEDIN, This Day.; It is a long time since Dunedin cricket has promised so interesting a senior competition- as,ls likely to eventuate this year, and at present there is a remarkable evenness between the various teams that makes the ultimate winner Very difficult to predict. Following up its defeat of Carisbrook, Albion made 219 against Grange last Saturday, Shepherd playing another delightful knock for 44. He is in great form this season, and promises to be a big help to. Otago in the forthcoming Plunket Shield matches. The allrounder Blmes. added another good bowling performance to his name, taking four wickets -for 86 runs. Ho is a medium pace lefthander and turns tho ball both ways. - Carisbrook made a job of Dunediu, who were dismissed for 144, Carisbrook replying with 72 for one wicket.' Monk, the ex-Aucklander, top-scored for Dunedin with 40. .Perhaps the most pleasing, featuro of this game was the welcome return.to form; with the ball of E. C. Blunt, who bowled better than he did at any stage last season, taking five wickets for 53 runs. He may not have been spinning the ball in his old dazzling style, but he was getting on a decided turn from the off and maintained a fine length, his slows worlrying most of the batsmen. Dickinson is also in fine form th^s season, taking two for none. He is as fast as ever, and proving more accurate. J. Jacobs, the ex-Canterbury batsman, is showing very consistent form with the bat for Carisbrook, as the scores of 24, 51, and-43'serve to show. He has some very nice strokes, one of his best being a powerful square cut. Ho is also not' afraid, to ■ lay on the wood, being very strong to the off. So far Dunning has-had no luck for ; Carisbrook with' the ball, though he is bowling well and-swerving quite a bit. His fielding, however, has been of an outstanding nature.
