BYRD EXPEDITION
SUPPLY SHIPS LOADING

DUNEDIN, This Day The work of preparing the Byrd expedition ships City of New York and Eleanor; Boiling for their forthcoming tops to Antarctica is.. proceeding rspidly; and the City of New York is to come out of dock at Port Chalmers on Monday or Tuesday after, being scrapped and cleaned and painted. The ghip will then come up to Dunedin to start the loading pf stores and equipment, for which every available (jnch of the ! vessel's space will have to be utilised,. It is hoped to dispatch the shin "from Dunedin for the south about 15th December. . . _ Next week the Eleanor Boiling is to dock at Port Chalmerß. She will be scrubbed and cleaned and minor structural alterations will be made to en-' able her to carry the aeroplanes to Antarctica. She- will also come up to Dunedin to load, and is expected to get away again about sth January. Although' the approximate dates o£ departure for both vessels ■ have been, fixed, it is not certain that they will " leave at those times, for the vessels* movements are governed by reports stating the condition of the ice pack.
