Some idea of the state o£ the city property market is furnished by Messrs. H. Ernest Leighton, Ltd., -who report on a sale held on behalf of the Public Trustee on Thursday last. There was a large attendance when the firm offered properties at 132, Vivian street, and 29 and 31 ■ Marion street, which, however, did not reach vhe upset .price and were pass*! in. Keen interest was taken in the vacant sections offered for sale in Overtoun terrace. Bidding for L-t 1 com-/ienced at £400, rising to £550, but not r aching its reserve was pasesd in. Lot 2 was started at £400 rising to £450, and was passed in, as was Lot 3. An eight-roomed residence, No. /4, Overtoun terrace, and the dwelling iSo. 87, Overtoun terrace, were submitted, but did not reach the reserves. There were several bids for the Petone properties in Fitzherbert and Nelson streets, but these also failed to reach the reserve, as did the property 3, Connaught terrace, Brooklyn. These properties are now ia the auctioneers' hands for private sale.

A street pavement was taken up and a 3ft thick wall of a Liverpool warehouse was cut through recently to rescue a puppy, which had been trapped for 17 hours in a shallow underground passage. The puppy crawled through a vertical grid and dropped into tin passage. '
