S.P.C.A.- CONCERT.
-• An Interesting concert arranged by Miss -M. b. Christmas In conjunction with the Animal Welfare Week/which is being held by the Society for the "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals took place at the ( Town Hall Concert Chamber last evening. Although the audience was by no means large, the items, which were contributed by a number of talented artists, were much appreciated. Before the commencement of the musical portion of the programme the.chairman of tho society, Mr. G. Mitchell gave a brief outline of the work which was being carried out by the organisation, and appealed to tho audience to give its support. The society was forming a league of junior members, and It believed that in fostering the love and kindness to animals In children It was doing a good service, for those who were kind to animals usually turned out to be good citizens- Mr. Mitchell then called upon Mr R. A. Wright, M.P., to give an address on behalf of the society. Mr. Wright also referred to the work which was being undertaken by tho society, and said that it was the object of "the committee to encourage the young people to form [branches of their own throughout the Dominion. He then recited several of his personal experiences with domestic animals, which went to show what great friends they were to humanity. The following artists contributed. Items to the bright programme of musical numbers: Margaret Jenkins. Miss Clodagh Russell, Miss Nora Gray, Miss Laurie Anderson, Mrs. Mildred Kenny's Mandolin Band, Miss Margot Buckerldge, Mr Vernon Oswin, Mrs. W. Andrews, and Miss M A. Christmas.
