GOVENOR-GENERALS
METHOD OF SELECTION
(Received 14th November, 2.45 p.m.)
LONDON, 13th November. "Wait and see," is the official attitude regarding the report from Australia that Labourites are moving in favour of a local Governor-General. It is recalled that there has been a similar discussion taking place regarding State Governors in Canada in recent years, when it was laid down that ■there is nothing to prevent a Dominion having local nominees; but'it is pointed out that the appointment of a Governor-General is a different matter in the light of the 1926 Imperial Conference designating him as the personal representative of His Majesty, who will he guided by his Australian
Ministers. An unofficial comment is that one of the difficulties will be to get someone entirely detached from local politics.
