FRENCH SUBMARINE
LARGEST IN WORLD LAUNCHED*
PAEIS 13th November. ■The, new French submarine Surcouf will be launched at Cherbourg on the 18th November. She will be the world's largest submarine; The "Daily Mail's" Paris correspondent says that snbmersible cruiser would be a truer name than submarine. Her deck is' armoured, her fourteen torpedoes are so arranged that she will be able to attack an enemy ship in any position, and she has also four five-inch quickfirers as well as anti-aircraft guns. The vessel is 400 feet long, with a speed of 19 knots. Her displacement afloat is 3.257 tons, and submorged 3.301. She can submerge to 560 ft. The largest submarine now afloat is British, 350 ft long, with sir torpedo tnbes. Her cost was over a millio* sterling.
