AERIAL SUICIDE
GIRL LEAPS TO DEATH
(Received 14th November, S a.m.)
NEW YORK, 13th November. America's first aerial suicide occurred when. Ruth Rockwell, aged 20, paid a pilot at Roosevelt Field five dollars for a ticket, leaping to death from 2000 feet. A note found in her purse blamed a futile, discordant lifo for the act.
"She camo into our oflico appearing quite normal and said she wished to flyhigh," said Edward Booth, tho pilot from whose 'plane Ruth Rockwell leaped to death. "We went aloft and when about 1500 feet up I looked round and saw her eyes tightly closed Thinking she was frightened by hor first flight I tried to reassure her that everything was all right. She pointed higher. I ran up to 2000 feet, and suddenly felt a bump which surprised me as the air was smooth. I looked round and saw her falling through space a hundred feet away. She had gone through the rear door to her doom.
