VOGELTOWN CLUB
The opening took place on Saturday of tho Vogelmorn Municipal Tennis Club (incorporated) at the courts in"Vennell street. Unfortunately the weather was hardly suitable- for such an occasion, but '"there was a veryhappy and enthusiastic gathering. Mr. A. G. Cathie, president of the club, in declaring the courts open for play, briefly traced the history of the formation of the club. Although there are only two courts at present, it is hoped soon to have two more completed, but this, together with the erection of a suitable pavilion, is chiefly a question of! finance. The club's officers'"at present are:—Vicepresidents, Messrs. J. Staples and C. H. Backhouse; hon. secretary and club captain, Mr. L. G. Thompson; assistant club captain, Mrs. A. de Clifton; lion, treasurer, Mr! J. Eussell; committee, Mrs. L. G. Thompson, Miss A. Fitzgerald, Messrs. C. H. Backhouse, J. Fitzgerald, and W. Third. The official set for the afternoon consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Cathie and Mr. and Mrs. Thompson. The members were afterwards the guests of Mrs. Cathie at afternoon tea, and the courts were then thrown open for general play. During the evening a successful dance was held in the Eidgway School, Mornington.
