BOXING
DONOVAN OUTPOINTS DOBLE (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, 14th Nov. Tommy Donovan (Waitara) again defeated Tommy. Doble (Australia) tonight on points in a most exciting fifteen rounds. Donovan's all-out methods for the first half of the distance had the Australian on the- retreat, but at times he brilliantly retaliated^ with lightning lefts and rights to Donovan's head and body. • In. the fourth round there was a clash of heads, both men falling to the canvas. Donovan got up mth blood streaming from, a deep gash over his left eye. This troubled him for the remainder of the contest. His seconds being unable to stop the bleeding, and Doble connecting on the damaged' part, the' canvas became greasy with blood, and several times the boxers slipped, and fell.
The decision, which was correct, met with a mixed reception, but the cheers eventually drowned the hoots. The referee's award was two rounds to Doble and .two were drawn. The Australian's evasiveness saved him ■ considerable punishment. Ho proved extremely tough, taking many of Donovan 's hard puncltes with a smile.
