FRUIT AND VEGETABLES.
.The. Director of the Horticulture Division has received the following report from the-Wellington fruit'inspector 'on the condition of locally-grown fruit and vegetables in Wellington shops and auction rooms and the market conditions for the month of October:—A fair supply'of apples to the Wellington market ■has'becn maintained by the Canterbury growers, consisting of Stunners, Crabs, and Lord Wolseleys. Winter Cole and Winter Nelis pears represent the bulk of those offering. The supply has been short and of fair quality. A Targe shipment of tomatoes arrived by the Tahiti-in a more or less, mixed condition, and were quickly cleared at low prices. The first shipment of American Jonathans and Delicious was soon bought up. Spring produce on the ■■whole is daily becoming more plentiful, including new potatoes, asparagus, cucumbers, rhubarb, spring cabbage, lettuce, spinach, etc., whilst peas are somewhat scarce yet.
