AN EXPLANATION
The chairman of the Wellington Gas Company, Ltd. (Sir Hatold Beauchamp),- speaking to a "Post" reporter to-day, said he was quite sure that the Hon. T. M. Wilford, in speaking -last night in the House: of Representatives upon the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting and : Amendment Bill, would not have intentionally misled the House in the statementhe made that, if the Bill became law, the Petone and Lower Hutt Lighting Board wouia be hi a position, to supply gas to consumers at 2s per 1000 cubie^fcet. What, no doubt, he intended to convey to' the House was the fact that the local body would possibly be able to purchase gas in bulk at the figure named, but to that figure of 2s there would have, to bo added the cost of distribution, management, interest on capital, and incidental expenses^ ■
