Snowden, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, speaking at tho annual Cutlers' Feast, at Sheffield, held out no j hope of a reduction in taxation. He said that if he should have to increase taxation, it would be from sheer necessity. Discussing the unemployment problem, Mr. Snowden said that the Government had overwhelming evidence that 'British would-be exporters were not pushing their trade in foreign countries with the energy being displayed by their foreign competitors. "I do not think I exaggerate when I say that one-half of the factories and workshops in this country are hopeless- i ly out of date." ' -j
