MEETING DURING CRISIS

NEW YORK,, 24th October.
j During the financial crisis to-day re-' preventatives of the J. P. Morgan" Co., j the National City Bank, the Chase National Bank, and the Guarantee Trust Co., met at the Morgan's office, after which Morgan's representative, Mr. Thomas W. Lamont, stated nonchalantly: "There has been a little distress selling ou the Stock Exchange this morning. We held a meeting of financial institutions to discuss the situation. - We found there were not any houses in difficulty and reports as to the maintenance of a margin are very j satisfactory Wo consider the situation | of the exchange this morning a technical one rather than fundamental, aud believe it will result in betterment." Thereupon the market began to turn.
