DE LUXE THEATRE.

"Self-Defence" heads the programme at tho Do Luxe this week. Tho hero Is Monte Blue, who Is tho construction boss of a gang build-, log a railway bridge for tho contractors. Harper and Son. While on a visit with her relatives (father, brother, and sister-in-law) to the construction camp Ruth Harper (May M'Avoy) receives an Introduction to tho construction boss by being • soundly spanked by him. Naturally sho resents this treatment, hut In a few hours sho apparently realises It did not do her any great harm, and by tho end of tho week she spent at the camp she nnd Collins (Monte Blue) are deeply In love. Collins becomes uneasy about the quality of tbo steel being used In the construction of tile bridge, but he Is reassured by Harper Junior. Collins's Idea of the steel turns out to be the correct one, however, for Just as two trains meet on the centro or the bridge on the day of Its dedication the structure dramatically collapses. Collins takes the blame upon himself, hut tho next day tho real culprit confesses. The picture has tho customary happy ending. The photography and reproduction of the voices reach a high standard. Iu the supporting pictures . Anna Case, with 'the Metropolitan opera chorus, sang. "La Felster" In' delightful fashion. A string quartet gave two numbers. which proved -popular, and a jazz band played some old tunes. Fox news and a Patho review complete tho picture portion of the programme. Mr. Paul T. Cullen presided, at the Wurlltzcr, and was deservedly applauded for his playing of "Serenade" (Schubert).
