EXPEDITING MAILS
USE OF AEROPLANES SUGGESTED
(By Telegraph.—Presa Association.)
CHKISTCHUKCH, This Day.
A. suggestion that aeroplanes should bo used for conveying to the South Island mails brought by the Vancouver and San Francisco steamers, received hearty approval at last night's meeting of the Council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. T. N. Gibbs said that information should be obtained as to the possibility of aeroplanes being used for picking lip the Vancouver and San Francisco mails and bringing them to the South Island, so that they would get here in time for replies to be sent back by the same boats. (Hear, hear.) At present he said that the mails arrived: too late for immediate replies to be sent, and he considered that the proposal might well be considered.
It was decided to refer the matter to the Postal Committee for a report.
