SHANGHAI, 3rd October. Reports to-day state that the Sovie* opened a strong offensive against Man* ehuli with a cavalry charge on Chinesa outposts under an artillery barrage at midnight on 2nd October. They were driven off, leaving a large number of casualties. Again at daybreak they commenced an intensive shelling of the Chinese lines, sis Soviet aeroplanes dropping bombs, resulting in from 50 to 100 casualties. Important develop^ ments in Sino-Soviet situation, are e» pected shortly.
