This will be VVanganm's second congress, the first one having been held 34 years ago. Entries should reach Mr. Toomath on or before Ist December.. With each entry should be given the competitor's chess-playing record, and each private entry must be accompanied by a fee of £2 2s, half of which is refunded if the competitor wins 50 per cent, or more, of his games. Messrs. W. E. Mason, W. Mackay, and G. P. Anderson were reappointed as the association's Elimination Board. They are to decide the question as to what should constitute a sufficiently good record to gain admission to the thirty-ninth tournament Son the championship of New Zealand. At the thirtieth! annual general meeting, held in June last, it was unanimously decided that in the event a "smaller centre" applying, for the championship congress, the association would specially increase its contribution from £20 to £25, and would aßk affiliated clubs to assist with one shilling lists, each of the s four piajor- clubs to guarantee £3, and each minor club £1. Experience has shown that these guarantees can easily be" raised when the list is entrusted to "a good canvasser, instead of being posted on a .notice-board. Under this scheme (the Wanganui Chess Club should receive extraneous assistance amounting to about £45, instead of the customary £20. Affiliated clubs are now asked to assist the Wanganui Chess Club on these lines. .:'.- \
