SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.

Pressure has continued rather low in the southern half of the South Island, and high elsewhere, more especially in the far North on account of tho centre of the anticyclone having remained practically stationary since yesterday cast of the Auckland Peninsula. North-west winds have prevailed, moderate to iresh_mainly, but strong at places about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Further rain has fallen in western districts, some stations reporting fairly heavy falls, and the weather has been rather unsettled generally. At 9 a m to-day, however, there was less cloud than yesterday in tho South Island.
