ENCOURAGING TOURISTS
Leonard L. Lane, in a letter to "The Post," urges the importance of encouraging the tourist traffic, and points out that Honolulu, which, he says, has not nearly as varied and wonderful scenic, attractions as New Zealand, has, .through its- vigorous advertising campaign, built up a traflic which has helped in. a marvellous way in promoting the prosperity of the Hawaiian Islands. He suggests tho appointment by the Government of a capable publicity agent of New Zealand :n America.
"We actively advertise our products, why not our country?" writes "Cploaial." • He, says he read with pleasure the "excellently expressed letter of "A Scot Abroad"; like "Maorilander" he had travelled in most places of interest in New Zealand, and his experience was that the "vast majority of tourists were pleasant folk, and most of them were decidedly appreciative of New Zealand's scenic charm. Let us remember," he says, "that increasing the flow of tourists means a great increase of money spent in the country, to the improvement of trade and general prosperity, :will also provide for improved transport, accommodation, roading,, etc., which in turn will. provide more employment. Since all the. nations of the world, including our own Motherland, advertise extensively, surely it woul.l be somewhat absurd for us to affect to despise publicity."
