REED AND GREEN

OFF TO SYDNEY

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") _ PALMERSTON N., This Day. There will be a general exodus of New Zealand trainers, horsemen, and horses to Sydney to-morrow, and among the number will be the two IJalmerston North hor»emen, R. Reed and T. Green, who have,' been engaged to do the riding for some of the Dominion horses claiming engagements across the Tasman. Reed, who will be accompanied by Mrs. Reed, contemplates being absent from the Dominion for approximately three months, and among his riding, engagements on the other side will be Nightmarch in the Metropolitan and Gay Ballerina in the Epsom Handicap, while he may also be found on top of H. Telford's horses when they figure under silk. T. Green makes the trip across the Tasman in order to be associated with Seatown and Honour in their public appearances, and as Seatown is due to contest the King's Cup the local horseman will make his way north to Brisbane. There is also a possibility that Seatown will go on to Melbourne, in which event Gieeu will in all probability again do the riding and, his stay in Australia will thereby be extended considerably. The past term found both Reed and Green playing important parts on the racecourses of the Dominion, and, while the latter did not attain the same place this season as he had done in the two preceding seasons, he is well up on the championship table. Reed, on the other hand, is now within striking distance of the lead at present enjoyed by A. E. Kllis, but he now foregoes his claim,, and, at best, can only fill the role o£ runnerup on the championship table—a position which he likewise filled last season. Their absence—as was illustrated in - tho early stages of the season now drawing to a close —will require them making up a considerable leeway on their return to the Dominion. A. Hobson, the hurdle horseman, who registered a double victory on Overhaul at Trenthara, >and was stood down for a period of five weeks by order of the Judicial Committee, proposes accompanying Green on the trip, it being his intention to spend his period of inactivity holiday-making. .
