YOUNG WOMAN'S DEATH
-..■At-th,e inquest held, yesterday into-the death of 'Annie Black, the single lytiman, aged 34; who was f6und vdead in the harbour on Tuesday evening after being miss,iug since the night, of Tuesday, 4th June, the Coroner, Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M returned'a verdict of suicide by drowning on; or about sth June, during a period of serious mental -stress. The' evidence showed .that the deceased arrived in New Zealand r as an assisted' immigrant in 1922, and had no relatives, in. the Dominion. Just prior to her death she was employed as a domestic at a girler" college at Masterton, leaving her-position to go into hospital as the result of a nervous breakdown. Before she had completely recovered she left the hospital to come to Wellington, where she registered at the Y.W.C.A. Hostel, from which she was found to be missing on Wednesday, sth June. A bag and hat found on the King's Wharf were identified as belonging to her, as were ' the clothes on the body found in the harbour. Sydney Joseph Dickason, of Masterton, gave evidence of a letter he had received from the deceased indicating that she intended to commit suicide, and identified a ring found on the body.
