Probably many elements combined to make the Parliamentary ceremonies yesterday specially interesting, and would account for the even larger than usual attendance in the galleries and outside the building. The facts that Their Excellencies the Governor-General and LaSy Alice Fergusson would not appear in that particular function again, that there was a new Government and array of different official ladies, and that the weather was mild and calm, made fbr a large attendance of. interested people. All Were punctual, the wives of Cabinet Ministers and officials who had the privilege of the floor of the.House,'Her Excellency, and later,the procession of uniformed people who escort the GovernorGeneral, headed .by the dignified "Black Rod." .Lady Alice Fergusson was in deep cyclamen georgette, plainly cut> with deep hems of satin to tone, this also being used for cuffs and stole ends: Her black hat was trimmed with lace and feather flowers of the same tone as the frock. The bouquet presented to her by the Speaker (Sir Walter Carncross) was of cyclamen tones also. Mrs. Bernard /Wood's coat was of ruby-coloured embossed chenille, , with light sable furs, worn over a frock of beige georgette, and a felt hat that matched her coat. The bouquet presented to her toned also with her ensemble. Others on the floor of the House were Mrs. Baird, wearing black silk and dark red velvet hat; Lady Statham, black with belt of metal brocade and black hat with crown of shaded rose, petals;; Lady Carncross, sapphire marocain and hat to match, with grey squirrel coat; Mrs.'T. Forbes,, powder-blue costume with; black hat and grey furs; Mrs. J. *G. .Cobbe, brown costume and hat; Mrs. J. B. Donald, navy" costume and hat: Mrs. J. G. Cpates, frock of pillar-box red georgette made with tucks and narrow frills on the skirt and small red hat; Mrs. E. J. Seddon, black with violet scarf; Lady Stout, plum colour with black hat; ,and. Studholme (smoke-blue costume and grey vest, blue and grey nat), Lady Rhodes (brown costume and hat, red posy),.Mrs.:Dyer (navy, costume and hat,ifuri coat);: Miss ;-Garacrpss. In the end gallery were the Mayor and Mayoress (the latter wearing a grey coat and furs over a blue frock, and a black velvet hat), the Foreign Consuls, including Mr. Penseler, with Mrs. Penseler (wearing navy and beige), Signor Formichella, with Signora Pormichella (wearing jade green; georgette, with a grey coat andjfurs, grey.hat),,and Mr, and Mrs. Lowrie (the latter -black, with a green, jumper,- fur. cWt, and black hat). The Chinese Consul was also present. Others were: Miss Veiteh (brown velvet) and her sister (also in brown), Miss Forbes (brown costume) Mrs David Smith (beige colour), Mrs J Craigio (navy with gr6 y fur), Miss Lulu Dyer (floral ring velvet and black hat) Mrs. Hawke, Mrs. Carey (Christchurch) (fawn cloth coat and hat finished with fur), Lady. Nosworthy, Mrs Shailer Weston^ Miss Statham (beieo bordered with navy), Mrs. Pow, Mrs Lowe (pink- with' fur coat), Mrs E W. Kane (black), Mrs. Browne (tabae brown satin), Mrs.. T. B. Strong, Mrs.. D.
