APPOINTMENT
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NELSON, 20th June. The Hon. H. Atmore has made the following statement in reply to the | chairman of, the Wellington Education Board (Mr. T. Torsyth):— "I received a telegram--from the secretary of tho board intimating that the board was dealing witl. tho appointment of vice-principal at the Wellington Training College and asking mo for a. reply. The secretary also stated that" "the board' profoundly icgrettcd the earthquake damage iv Nelson city. I replied ,thanking tho board for its kindly mes/age and intimating that I would deal with the matters referred to immediately upon my return; . ■ ■ i - "In view of the message from the secretary showing quite- clearly that members of the board were cognisant of the reason for my departure from Wellington rather hurriedly, I think tho attitude of the' chairman is inexplicable," said Mr. Atmore. "Apparently be- fails, to recognise the distress caused by the recent earthquakes as sufficient reason for postponing what is relatively a small matter, and it is difficult" to understand his state of mind. I believe in first things first, hence my attention to matters here and later attention to a minor question.'"
