DE-HORNING QUESTION
For some time past there has been ii movement in favour of tho compulsory do-horning of cattle. Advocates of de-horning claim that it would prevent the mutilation of the. hides of nnimals in saleyards and cattle trucks. Admitting that do-horning would diminish suffering, its opponents nevertheless argue that in itself it would be a means of causing cruelty. Representations from "both sides havo been made to the present and the former Government on the matter, and tho Minister of Agriculture (the lion G w. I'orbes) stated to-day that tho question of the advisability or otherwise of passing im Act to make dohorning compulsory was still under consideration.
