DUNCAN LEADING

A beautiful day and the course in. perfect order was tlio good fortune of the Go golfers who entered for the provincial golf championship 1 at Iteretaunga to-day. There were fewer en-tries-'i'roiii. outside than has been the case for some years, doubtless due to the many other tournaments, at Palmers ton North, Nelson, New Plymouth, and elsewhere. T. 11. Horton and A, E. Conway were notable absentees. The greens were in perfect order, very fast, but true, though many players found difficulty on them. To-day was the qualifying round over 36 holes, tho first sixteen of whiclf qualified for tho first round of the championship, which will be played on Holiday, the final being played on Tuesday afternoon. Tho best card to-day was returned by A. 13. S. Duncan, who put in a, fine 73 from scratch, reading as follows:— Out: 453444454—37. " . In: 4-164-12444—36.
