WHY NOT CLEANER WELLINGTON?
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Anent the paragraph in your Wednesday's issue regarding Cleaner Sydney,, is it not time that similar steps were taken here to clean up our streets and to see that they are no longer made a dumping ground by, the careless and the indifferent? Children are no doubt ro spongible for the fruit skins that are such a menaeo to our safety, but the thoughtless smoker is responsiblel for ; all the cigarette cartons and tin containers ' that strew.every footpath and every road. Nothing but drastic measures will instil a sense of decency and tidiness into their untidy minds; and as the remedy is in our own hands let us all unite to wake up our civic authorities to inaugurate and enforce measures to improve matters in this respect.—l am, etc., - E.H.
