PERSONAL,

Captain A. H. Prosser, who has been awaiting instructions at Wellington, has relieved the master of the Walhemo, Captain J. Flynu, who is taking holidays at Auckland.

The Walkouaitl liald off at Dunedin on Thursday. The master, Captain Reed, and third officer, Mr. Scholcfleld, are standing by the vessel In the meantime. The chief officer, Mr. .T. W. White, Is transferring to Sydney for Instructions, and tho second officer, Mr. R. C. Ingram, is taking holidays at Wellington.

Mr. A. Duckworth, chief clerk of the Union Company's head office traffic department, has gone South on three weeks' holiday leave.

KAHAU ROCKS LIGHTHOUSE.

According to a notice in the Gazette, the proposed lgihthouse on the Kalmu Hocks is expected to bo established towards the end of next month. The light will consist In an automatic uuwatched flashing light with a«red sector over the Kahou Rocks, showing one Hash every twenty seconds. The site of the light is on the summit of a high limestone rock, known locally as the Honeycomb Rock, which is isolated on the foreshore at the high-water mark. The Kahau Rocks arc 25ft above the main high water spring tides. The largest and northernmost rock Is 400 ft in length in a north-bound direction, aud is about 80ft in width/ A caution is given with the notice that, the contour of the coastline is incorrectly shown on charts of the locality, arid the bottom has been only partially examined The exact' position of the lighthouse is given as follows: Inshore from Kahau Rocks, at a position of 058 degrees 27.7 miles from Cape Palliser Lighthouse. Lat. 41 degrees 22 minutes south, long., 175 degrees 49.45 minutes east (approximately), on Admiralty Chart No. 2025.
