HORSE SALES

.The salo of brood marcs and foals conducted by Abraham and Williams, Ltd., at Palmers ton North yesterday on account of Mr. J. P. Thorpe, was not characterised by high prices. However, only one of the lots failed to change hands, and there is a chance that that will be sold privately. After Mr. Thorpe's lot were auctioned, Ania, the half-sister to Rapier by Solferino, with a filly foal at foot by Sky Blue and in foal to Leighton, was sold to Mr. G. G. Holmes, the owner of Rapier, for 100 guineas. The complete list disposed of was as under:—

Bay mare Pleasure (Merry Moments— Heather Lea), with filly, foal at foot by Acre and in foal to Acre, Mr. H. Palmer, Otaki, 65 guineas. Brown mare Your Queen (Our KingLady Ainslie), with foal at foot to Gasbag and in foal to. Gasbag, Mr. B. Burgess, Masterton, 24 guineas. Chestnut mare Starveldt (Rooseveldt— dam sister to Hautere), with foal at foot by Acre and in foal to Acre, Mr. H. K. Peacock, Waipukurau, 56 guineas.

Brown mare. Great Effort (Provocation —Effort), iv foal to Acre, Mr. J. O'Donncll, Buunythorpe, 31 guineas. Bay mare by All Red—Esk Maid, by Valadimir—Elk, with foal at foot by Gasbag, Mr. A. P. Easton, Foxton, 75 guineas. Chestnut mare Ania (Solferino—Anitea), with filly foal at foot by Sky Blue and in foal to- Leighton, Mr. G. 6. Holmes, of Christchiirch, 100 guineas.
