MEMORIAL TO PIONEICKS

(From Our Own Correspondent.) N'iiLSON, 21st March. T.^s Bisln>~ Z- presided over a meeting in the Ti\j<&itn\ Library yesterday to make arra~ngtVr;cnts for a welcome to the Bishop of Aotearoa (the Kov. F. Bennett), who will pay an oflicial visit to Nelson in May.

At a public, meeting convened by the Mayor, Mr. W. J. MoiTatt, last evening to discuss.a proposed ineirforial to the pioueers of Nelson, the following mo--1 ion, moved by Mr. I). IJ. J3dwards and seconded by Air. G. Hogg, was carried unanimously:—"That tlie suggestion that the memorial take the form of an early settlers' hall, in ■which photos of early settlers and pictures of the early settlements of the Nlson province, together with relics of early days and records of early history be stored, is acceptable to this meeting." The annual meeting of the Nelson Institute was held last evening. The following committee was set up for the ensuing year:—Mr. l'\ G. Gibbs (chairman), Mr. J'\ V. Knapp (vicc-pi'csi-ilent), Lieut.-Colonel Burton (lion, secretary and treasurer), Messrs. Moyes, Fitzgerald, A. I'hilpott, A. Jones, and Mrs. Moucrieff.

Mr. C. K. Bridge, of Hid relieving staff of the A.M.P., arrived here this morning to relieve Mr. 13. K. Stevens, the local malinger, who will spend several weeks' leave, in-the North Island. It is very rarely that all the Anchor Company boats visit their homo port ■within two days, but this has happened twice iii eight days. Last Thursday and Friday all camo to Nelson, and again Yesterday and to-day.
