AUCKLAND MAYORALTY

LABOUR NOMINEE WITHDRAWS

. (By Telegraph.) (Special to "the Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND, This Day. There was a belief that Mr. T. Bloodworth would again be the Labour Party candidate for tho Mayoralty, Ho stated yesterday that he agreed to his name being considered by tho Labour Representation Committee, but only on condition that there was no selection ballot. He, had no desire for nomination unless the wish for it among the members of the party was practically unanimous. Later he was advised that Mr. H. G. R. Mason's name had been submitted to the committee and that a ballot would be held.in accordance with the party's constitution. He thereupon wrote to the committee, repeating that as consent to his name going forward was conditional on there not being a selection ballot, or in other words, that there was no one else willing to be the Party candidate, he wishes to withdraw. "I was not keen on the contest or on the position of Mayor, but I am satisfied that I would have won had I gone to the poll," Mr. Bloodworth said. .

Councillor W. H. Murray is the additional candidate, and if Mr. E. H. Potter (Mayor of Mt. Eden) stands there will be five contestants for the city office. '
