Mr. P. M. Chancellor, of Chicago, who intends spending some time in tho Dominion in general scientific research, arrived by tho Tahiti to-day. Associated with him is Mr., Norton Stuart. Other members of the party aro Mias D. M. Dowling and Mr. F. Guntrip.

Captain H. Dannreuther, E.N., who was formerly in charge of the Flinders Naval Depot, arrived to-day by tho Maunganui from Sydney. Captain Dannreuther, who is accompanied by Mrs. Dannreuther, will leave by the lonic for England to-morrow.

Mr. W. A. Mackay left Sydney with his wifo and family on sth March by tho Maloja for England. They will return to Australia at the end of the year. Mr. Mackay, who is a nephew of Lord Inchcape, has control in Australia and Now Zealand of the shipping interests represented by tho P. and O. Co., the Eastern and Australian Line, tho British-India and Ham Lines, and the A.U.S.N. companies.

Mr. B. 0. Andrews, New South Wales, Government geologist, has'been elected president of tho Australian and New Zealand Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (Inc.) for tho current year. Mr. F. \Y. Furkert, Engineer-in-Chief of the PuWic Works Department, is in Auckland in connection with-the bursting of the Mount Edea reservoir.

Mi 1. Gcorgo Eussell, of Wellington, accompanied by Mrs. Kussoll, is leaving by the Maunganui. on Friday on a world tour. Best wishes for a pleasant time abroad were extended to Mr. Russell on bohalf of the Wellington Botary Club by the president, Mr. D. J. M'Gowan, at the club's luncheon to-day.

Dr. G. H. Cunningham, Ph.D., M.Sc, F.'N.Z.L, an officer of the Agricultural Department, at present in charge of tho mycological station at Palinerston North, is to represent New Zealand at tho forthcoming Mycological Conference in London. The conference, which will be attended by representatives from all parts of the Empire, will deal entirely with the question of diseases in plants.

A Press Association message from. Napier states that tho Hon. H. Atmore (Minister of Education) visited the Napier. Boys' and Girls' High School and tho Napier Technical College today. Ho loft later for Hastings, where ho will inspect schools and receive deputations to-morrow. He loaves later for Waipawa and Dannevirke.

Colonel W. S. Tuppfo arrived to-day by the Tahiti from San Francisco. He has come to Now Zealand by arrangement with the Govornment Publicity Oilico and the Union Steam Ship Company, in order to travel through the Dominion before giving lectures in the United States on behalf of the Publicity Department. When tho lecture season is over Colonel Tupper will be arranging for the conducting of tourist parties to New Zealand.

Amongst Wellington deer-stalldng parties leaving shortly will be ono comprised of Messrs. A. E. Shrimpton, late Chief Telegraph Engineer, George Sanderson (Hastings), F. W. Furkert (En-gineer-in-Chief, Public Works), E. C. Gage (District Telegraph Engineer, Auckland), and Dr. Porritt (Wanganui). They aro going to the Huxloy Gorge, near Lake Ohau, a locality which Mr. Shrimpton and Mr. JB. L. Wigley have stalked over annually for_ many years, securing some fine heads, including a sixtcen-pointer.
