THE BLIND AND EX-SOLDIERS
A party comprising 16 men, women, and children afflicted with loss of sight passed through Wellington yesterday from the South en route for Auckland.' returning after holiday vacation to take up their vocational training at the Jubilee Institute for the Blind. The students were, met by members of the Bed Cross Society on arrival of the LyHelton ferry, and arrangements wor> made for their transport to the Y.W.C.A., where breakfast and luncheon were provided.'The journey North was continued on the 2 p.m. train from Thorndon, the party again being transported from the Y.W.C.A. to the train. Apart from arranging the transport and doing what it could to entortain' the blind folk during their brief stay, tho Bed Cross provided a largo hamper of eatables specially prepared, and also two' cases of mixed fruit for consumption during the Journey. Arrangements have been made by the Red Cross Society for a picnic outing for the ex-soldiers at the Mental Hospital, Porirua, to take place on Friday noxt. Already a number of car owners have volunteered to assist, but still a few more cars are required. Cars will assemble at the Bed Cross Hoadquarters, 63, Dixon street, at 9 a.m. on that day, and proceed thence to Porirua to pick up the patients, taking them, if conditions are suitable, to one of the beaches or up Moonshine Valley. Tho society attends to all catering arrangements, ""and does.what it can to pro-: mote a real happy time for thoso concerned.
