OAR CONVERSION
CHARGES AGAINST THREE MEN
Arthur Edward Cowpeiya labourer, aged 20, Uric James l'erguson, a tinsmith, aged 10, and■■Trevlyn Birdling Otten, a black-, •smith, aged 19, were jointly charged before Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court to-day with stealiug at Cluistclmrch a motor-car, valued at £340, the property of James Leo Carrington. In asking for a remand until Friday, ChiefDetective Ward said the accused had only been arrested on the arrival of the Nelson boat this morning. There would be other charges against them. He understood. that tho accused, who came from Christchurch, had been stealing or converting a car to their own use, and driving to another town where they would abandon it and take another car and bo go cm.,to another town. None of the cars which had been abandoned had been recovered.
Bail was allowed in the accuseds' own bonds of £200 and sureties of £200.
