PORK SUBSIDY
PRODUCER NOT GETTING IT

DUNEDIN, This Day. When a letter from the Dominion executive asking for an expression of opinion on the export of pork, was read at a meeting of the Otago Provincial Executive to-day, Mr. Preston said that the farmers were exorcised in their mind over the fact that the pork subsidy was not being paid out in tho manner originally intended. The subsidy was going to the exporter, instead of to tho producer. Some means of diverting the payment to tho producer would have to bo found, or tho subsidy would not benefit the industry in any way. This question, together with the existing system of land valuation, was referred to the provincial conference.
