UNION SHIELD MATCHES

SENIOR WON BY KAROKI

Saturday was a field afternoon tor the riflemen at ■ Trentham, the occasion being the annual teams match for the KiQe Union Shields. The match Is always ono of considerable interest to local marksmen, as, besides being au honour to bo classed at tho premier riflo team in Wellington, teams' shooting is regarded the CKarorl again turned up victors in the senior, match, and wero never headed from tho commencement. Their shooting was indeed of a high standard, the average working out at 90.j per man, which is a very good performance at Trentham. L. A. Caldwell, of the Karorl team was the best Individual performer of tho afternoon, notching a brilliant 100 out of a possible 105. Ho required a "bull for his last shot to make the century, and when the "dummy" came up 'with the scoring disc in the ."bull" position, he. received a well-deserved The junior competition w;\s most interesting throughout, and tho final decidedly iuterestin;;. found that' retoius Suud' Old Navuls had scored exactly tho same number of points, but I'ctono, because they had scored eight points more than Old Navals at the longest range, UOO yards, they were adjudged the winners. On Saturday, although the weather was glorious, the wind was a Bit puzzling and tricky, and tho scoring In some cases, was only fair. Meeting next month, when (he champion teams match of New Zealand takes place, this being a decided honour for any club to win. President W. G. M.Bain, chairman of the Wellington Rifle Association, congratulated tho winning team, and presented the shields to the respective captains. .
