Compared with the figures for the corresponding period of 1927, a decrease is shown in the criminal business handled in the Wellington Magistrate's Court in the last quarter of 1928. When comparison is made of the figures for the whole year with those of 1927 a decrease is also apparent.

The returns of civil business show that a greater volume of work was handled in the quarter, ended 31st December, 1928, than in the corresponding quarter of 1927. The figures also show that more plaints wore entered last year than was the case iw 1927. The .figures for the periods under review are as follows:— CRIMINAL BUSINESS.
