N.Z. MOSQUITOES

A SERIOUS PROBLEM

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, This Day. Mr. David Graham, entomologist, in a paper road before the biology section of the New Zealand Science Congress this morning, said that as far as his investigations went it did not ap: pear that there wore in New Zealand any mosquitoes that transmitted dangerous diseases, but mosquitoes, especially in the North, were a serious annoyance. Many people suffered real pain, and there were some cases of real illness caused by bites. The control of tho pest was ;i matter of grave public concern. Stock, and particularly dairy stock, suffered'severely from tho pest, and there was not much doubt that tho milk yield was seriously affected.

The biology section appointed a committee to see what could be done in furthering Nature-study in tho schools, and report to tho Kcw Zealand Institute.

It was also decided to stress the importance of the toacring of Naturestudy and natural science in the primary and post-primary schools, to request the Education Department to bring about improvements, and to state that a special committee would at all times bo willing to confer with tho officers of the Education Department on the subject.
