It is likely that, a .good many who had thought of the Tamahine's first excursion trip of tho season to Picton and the Sounds over tho week-end were frightened by the thought of the tailend of last week's bad. southerly and stayed at home. They missed a treat, and those who chanced the weather had no regrets, for the run across to Tory Channel was smooth enough for any but those with strong imaginations, and thereafter the Sounds run was ideal, with brilliant sunshine, scarcely a breeze, and a well-planned programme carried through really well. . The general arrangements were in the bands of Mr. W. Hancock, who saw to it that anything that was wanted was forthcoming, generally without being asked for. ■ ■■''■.

Tho Tamahine arrived-at Picton at about half-past four .on Saturday afternoon, and after tea the.afterdeek, roofed with awnings- and lit by coloured globes, became a jazz room till 11.30. At 3.;50 on Sunday morning the boat loft Picton and headed down Queen Charlotte Sound, round Cape Jackson, and into Pclorus Sound, a dead smooth run to Tennyson Inlet, one of the most beautiful of all the arms of the Sounds. Immediately after, breakfast the first picnic launch got away for Elaine Bay, a fishing party followed a few minutes later, then another fishing party, and the second landing and bathing party. At 10 o'clock a general cruise launch took,away those who found the wonderful bush and sea and the sunshine good enough in themselves. Each outing was different from the others, but all were greatly successful. After dinner the Tamahine turned again for Pieton, ran the length of'both Sounds, calling'at Ship Cove en route, and tied up at 5 p.m. After tea the return trip was commenced, Wellington being reached at half-past, nine.
