A SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE

Trade with the United States in New Zealand products shows substantial growth for the year 1928 compared with returns for 1927. .Figures supplied by Mr. W. L. There are shrinkages for 1928 in skins, casein, whale oil, seeds, hemp and tow, and gold, of wheih exports in 1927 Were 15,2800z, compared with 14,8500z for 1928. The exports include all shipments of more than 100 dollars in value.

The New Zealand Meat Producers Board has received the following cable i'rom its London office, dated 25th January, advising Smithfield delivered prices averaged for week ending that date, with movements (if any) shown in parentheses, as follows: N.Z. Wethers and Maidens. —Canterbury quality, selected brands, 50 and under, 7d; 57 to 64, 6%d; 65 to 72, 6y 8 d (down VsA\. Other brands, 56 and under, 6%d; 57 to 64, 6%d; 65 to 72, Cd (down %d). New Zealand Ewes:.64 and under, .5%d (down %d). New Zealand Lambs: Canterbury quality (old season), 30 and under, !J94d; 37 to 42, WM; 43 to 50, not quoted; seconds, 7%d (down %d); selected brands (new season), 36 and under, 10% d (down %d); 37 to 42, WM (down %d). Other brands (new season), first quality, 30 and under 10% d, 37 to 42 10% d; second quality, 30 to 32 average, 9%d (down %d).
