FIRES

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WESTPOKT, 27th January. A fire at 3 a.m. to-day did considerable damage to tho buildings and stock of C. Phillips, tailor, and A. \V. Henley, jeweller. Most of tho stock suffered severely from water, tho firo being confined chiefly to back portions of the premises. Henley's stock was insured for £2000 in the Victoria Insurance Company, and the building for £o'oo in the Yorkshire Company. Tho .insurances on Phillips's wero £200 on tho building and £200 on the stock, and £-10 on the machinery. KOTOEUA. This Day. A refreshment room and dwelling at Mamaku, occupied by Mrs. Whcatlcy and owned by Mrs. Howe, together with a hall adjoining, were totally destroyed by fires this morning. The building was directly opposite tho railway station, which' was in clangor, the paint being scorched and windows broken by the heat. The insurances are not available. EKETAIIUNA, This Day. A fire at All'rodton on Saturday night destroyed a garage, a truck, and a mo-tor-car, with a quantity of tools, belonging to tho Eketnlnuia County Council. When discovered tho fire was too far advanced to effect a. save. The truck was insured for £150, and the car for £100. Tho shed was not insured. The building was left apparently safe between 5 and 6 o'clock.' Tho outbreak occurred at 10 o'clock.
