Kcplying to tho statement of Mr. H. M. Chrystall regarding the alleged insecurity of Arapuni dam, Mr. T. Babone, Chief Public Works Engineer at Arapuni, in an interview, said that there was no. cause for alarm. The leakage through tho diversion tunnel had not increased in twelve months, and the tunnel would ultimately be sealed. The leakage at the dam and the valve was decreasing. The erosion near the spillway was also decreasing, and' would bo further checked when the water was diverted to the turbines for power generation. - Prompt warning would bo given in the event of accident, the Arapuni telephono being connected with the public linos nightly.
