Tug case iv which ex-Police Sergeant Goddard, Mrs. Meyrick, and Liuigi Rebuffi are being charged with bribery in connection with night club raids,

In evidence, Goddard admitted that ho had done business with bookmakers after arresting them.. Betting offences were also admitted. The investment in Weihbley rock stalls was contrary to tlio service regulations. Goduard said that the total profits from betting, from Wembley, and from foreign exchange speculations, was £20,000. The cross-examination by Mr. Percival Clarke lasted fqur hours. Goakley, Goddard's partner in the Wembley speculation, gave evidence that.the joint profits in. 19^4-25 were £8500. The profit worked out at lOd in a shilling. : Other witnesses for the defence gave evidence that they were associated with Goddard in a song business from which £5000 profit was made in 1922. Goddard'a name did not. appear in the books. . ■

A commission agent ; gave jvidonco that between 1922 and 1926 Goddard made.frequent bets and had many winning as well as losing days, bui he appeared to be well informed. He always received his winnings in pound notes.
