DE LUXE THEATRE.

The He Luxe -Theatre was again crowded last evening for the start of Hie second weelj's screening of "The Trail of '!I8," a story of tho Klondike gold rush. The picture shows how men go mad in the searcli for gold, caring nothing for the moral aspects of their life or for the rights of others so long as they secure the coveted metal. The picture is excellently photographed, though there is a little too much repetition, especially in the long march to Dawson City. The plot is flimsy, telling chiefly the story of the long line of wealth seekers, and what there is of it is inclined to be somewhat tragic and unsavoury. Dolores del Itio plays the leading role, whilo Kalpli Forbes plays opposite to her, the rest of tho cast being j outstanding.. Tho snow scenes aro excellently done, and the burning dance hall in tho final scenes is also very realistic. Prior to the screening of the star picture a New Zealand Government Publicity Department film was shown. It included scenes of the Governor opening Parliament, motor-boat racing on tho Wanganui Itiver, girls' sports at Carlaw Park, Auckland, and other topical incidents in tho life of tho Dominion. Tho Orchestra De Luxe, under the leadership of Mr. Samuel Aarons, played a special score of music, and Mr. Aarons presided at the Wurlltzer organ in "My Honeymoon Waltz" and other items. The programme will bo repeated this evening and during flic coming week. A highly dramatic and likewise. Instructive, sequence of scenes appears in tho William Fox masterpieco "Four Sons," the feature film which has created such a sensation in New York and Los Angeles. Some of tho action takes place in the 1 examination rooms and detention wards of Ellis. Island, the gateway of tho now arrivals from foreign countries. Director Ford had these sets constructed in facsimile to'the rooms in the Federal buildings on the island, and every bit of routine shown in tho picture is carried out to tho letter. Earle Foxe, Margaret Mann, June Collyer, Charles Morton, James Hall, Francis X. Bushman, and others are seen in principal roles in tills production, which is coming to tho De Luxe Theatre next Friday.
