William Bate, aged 38, a labourer residing at 32, Queen street, Eetone, made au attempt at about 7 o'clock last night to commit suicide by slashing iiis arm with a safety razor blade. He was attended by Dr. Bakewell and removed to .the Wellington Hospital. Richard Cook, a fifth statutory offender for drunkenness, was fined £.2, in default seven days' imprisonment, by Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court this morning. One first-offeiuliug inebriate was fined the amount. ol! his bajl, 10s. . :•.•■•■
