BRITISH COOPERATIVES.
Returns of the Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies of Great Britain shows _ that there were 1351 retail distributive societies on the register in 1927, with a total membership of 5,532,223. The surplus for 1927 amounted to £23,198,619, allocations being interest on shares, £3,912,706; dividends on purchases,- £17,979,831;' bonus to employees, £99,112. Wholesale societies number four, with sales £106,155,686.
