TARANAKI OIL FIELDS.

Taranaki Oil Fields' new field of operations in the South Island is situated in the vicinity, of .Greymouth, near Lake Brunner. Mr. M'Pherson, of the company geological service, has been making a thorough in? vestigation of the property, which was secured some years ago. The surface indications of the. southern property are re-' ported to be highly favourable for a thorough test for oil. It' is understood that gas pressure at the No. 1 Gisborne well is so heavy as to cause temporary suspension of workthere;,but that this is taken as a favourable condition for winniug oil once the pressure is effectively dealt with. Such difficulties have frequently arisen in the American oil fields, and have there be§n surmounted, and this will account for the present visit to the States of Mr. H. P. Moline, general manager of-Taranaki Oil Fields, who is investigating the problem and its solution according to latest American practice.
